Abstract: With advancements in materials science over the past few decades, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of synthetic polymers by conservators. Pasargad black lime stone used in columns and door frames of Xerxes castles, which were produced in 480 B.C had been exposed to rigid and severe weathering mechanism caused wide and serious decay forms. Acrylics and alkyl alkoxysilanes and mixtures of them have frequently been applied for the conservation of friable and flaking stone. Application of mixtures combines the consolidative and water-repellent properties of alkyl alkoxysilanes, consolidative and adhesive properties of acrylics in a single treatment. The present thesis deals with the study of stone consolidants which consist of mixtures of Paraloid B72 (copolymer butyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate) with Stain Repellent Akemi (oligomer alkyl alkoxy silane) as two different mixtures. The materials in single and mixture applied on samples get from black lime stone of World-Heritage site of Pasargad. The nanocomposites of the mixtures with nanoclay Closite 30B were prepared so that the effect on consolidation quality of the addition of nanoclay has been evaluated. The compression strength and contact angle of treated stones was measured. Morphological properties of stone surface, the penetration rate of the consolidating mixtures in stone as well as resistivity to freeze thaw cycles have been studied. The results were compared with the same features in untreated stone.
