Abstract: The tomb of Cyrus is one of the monuments in Pasargad that has been lasted almost safe and complete. It has been built completely with limestone and without any mortar. One of the common damage taking place in approximately all limestones is deterioration because of soluble salts that can emerge in stone and spread gradually even till the stone collapse completely. Since this process is so harmful and irreversible, it should be started treating and preserving as soon as possible. The first step for choosing a suitable treatment, is knowing more and more about damage and harmful factors. To reach this purpose, this project wants to describe the damage of soluble salts and their mechanism and search for this decay the tomb. It will have achive it in four sections. In the first section, historical and technical studies of Pasargad have been done with particular concentrate on the tomb of Cyrus. In second section, stones and characters of sedimentary stones and limestones features has been explained that can be concluded in recognition more about more about internal factors which can influence in damaging process. In third section, general pathology of stones has been studied with special view at soluble salts and their mechanisms. In forth section, a sample of damaged stone has been chosen and studied to survey the damage process and recognize reasons of decay with particular focus on the deterioration process of salts. In this research, it has been distinguished that the main reasons of damage that the studied stone has been undergoing is internal factors, namely its components, and their interaction with external factors, namely moisture. But it should be had in mind that the possibility of florescence is still remaining with due attention to exiting of internal and external conditions of stone. We hope that this research can take a step in knowing more about the salt deterioration and about effective factors and help even a little bit somebody who is studying and searching on this topic widely.
